Hitherby Dragons is Chasing Away the Blues.

Seen lots of places, the actor who plays Captain Reynolds in Firefly shows up to a Firefly-based RPG at a con, and there's a picture.

[livejournal.com profile] australian_joe gives some Job hunting advice, some of which I'd never heard of before, but makes a whole lot of sense. (like, oh, sending a _paper_, not email, thank you note to the interviewer(s). I've sent email ones...)

(ok, there's snow, now I want sun to bounce off the snow and make it a bit brighter! And I really do think that I'm managing to keep myself a bit more sane this winter as compared to _any_ of the past ones since I started having problems. I blame SAM-e, as well as my roommate who reminds me to do things like use my light box. Yay!)

That's interesting. I've never even heard of sending a thank you note to the interviewer(s). I've interviewed lots of people here (and I agree with almost everything [livejournal.com profile] australian_joe has to say--I hate it) and I'm pretty certain we've never received a thank you note.

cool! hey, did I ever tell you that [livejournal.com profile] redjo is related by marriage to Nathan? he's a cousin of his brother's wife.

Oh, boo. All we have here is rain. His job hunting advice sounds mainly focused on large companies and thus not terribly useful to me, sadly. I need advice on finding the sort of small firms I'd like to work for, more than anything!

hmmm actually i always do that :), but i've been an IT consultant for a long time. it just stands out from nearly any other candidate.

Rain... we have bits of rain now, but we had snow last night and yesterday afternoon. :)

large companies: true, but even though I've mostly been involved with small companies, most of it still rang true for me.

Of course, since you're talking about _finding_ places, his advice can't help you yet. You need to find somewhere to apply to, first. :) (Which I can't help you with, either, sadly.)

You did not! That's fascinating. :)

He's a cousin of 'his' or of 'her' brother's wife?

redjo -> brother -> wife -> father -> brother -> son = Nathan

Interesting, a quick google search gave me a lot more data as well. I may suggest this to a person or two I know. I'm always leary of the claims for herbal remedies, it is too easy to pass off bad products in the unregulated arena. This one seems to have a lot of studies to back it up, on first gloss.

Me too, it's a great opportunity to a) show how classy you are, b) correct any possible mistakes you think you made on the interview, and c) reiterate once again just why you're a perfect match for them, using all the info you *gained* from the interview. :) And nobody else does it, so you'll really stand out. I use tasteful-but-striking thank-you cards.

Yes, my sister-in-law's last name is Fillion. I've never met Nathan myself, but I hear he's a real sweetheart. (And from Edmonton to boot, woo hoo!)
