Jun. 12th, 2004 12:37 amA quote I have always loved from Mercedes Lackey's Tayledras (part of her Valdemar books) is "Zhai'helleva, ashke" - or, "Wind to thy wings, beloved". Never before have I known anyone it felt right to say it to. Even if I did feel compelled to modify it a little.
A random thing I noticed a bit ago (last Sunday, I believe), and was reminded of tonight. Of all the five physical senses, taste is the only one from which I have never had an overwhelmingly pleasant experience. I like some foods, yes, but I generally eat to not be hungry. This confuses people.
OK, I'm seriously babbling and tired, and need to get up to go to Rhode Island tomorrow to visit family members. So, I sleep.
And I have hope.

Date: 2004-06-12 10:18 am (UTC)If you would like a way to explore the Beloved, you might check into Sufi writings, Rumi is the only one that comes to mind immediately. There's a specific book that I'm looking for that will likely get me to actually clean up my secondary table by my desk.
I've wanted to be a kestra'chern but I know that's not a viable path given our current societal mores.
As for taste, that's something that I have experimented a lot with. The question becomes what sorts of things do you find the most interesting? I find textures to be more engaging due to my nose frequently be stuffed up. Some find simple subtle flavors to be the best, and still others find a complex mix of flavours to be enrapturing.
It just so happens that I know places to try all of these things around here. Sounds like a plan of action when you make it out here.
BTW, if you can find an exquisite sushi place, you might try there. I'm not talking about good or wonderful sushi. I'm speaking of enrapturing. Out of all the sushi places I've tried, I've only had such at two places. I might know some people that would know if you're interested.

Yes. I do. I'm high on life, often. ;)

Date: 2004-06-16 05:06 pm (UTC)True! But it appears that the vast majority of the people I know _do_ have a pretty strong and interesting sense of taste, so my lack of strong interest in much for food confuses them.
But yeah, you have many good points. :)

This does not surprise me, somehow. :)
taste [...] what sorts of things do you find the most interesting?
Crunchy things please me. Fruit pleases me. I don't tend to like squishy much, which cuts out most sushi (but I do like some cooked sushi). I adore mint. Mmm... More probably, but the fact that taste _isn't_ a strong interest of mine makes this difficult. And is probably why, up till the last few years, I was even worse at telling people what kinds of foods I liked, or suggesting food types.

Indeed!

I don't think I know of any...

Date: 2004-06-16 05:36 pm (UTC)Yes and no. What I like, I like. But I can't tolerate most spicy foods... with the exclusion of garlic.
Very picky, I am.
