Well, for me, the reason it was different this time is because I heard about it. Seems that I'm suddenly a lot more up on current affairs since joining LJ. Not that this was all that difficult to do; my awareness of my surroundings both immediate and on a larger scale has always been something I've needed to work on.
My initial speechlessness (which has since turned into anger) wasn't so much relating to *who*, as the sheer fact of a completely senseless death. But then again, I rarely see sense in any death... I can think of exceptions, but there aren't many.
There is also some ability to see what she did as something I might have tried to do. So aside from her nationality, there's still a feeling of kinship there. Which is certainly a part of my initial shock.
And yes - the links you replied with, as well as the phone numbers she posted, are *why* I linked directly to her original post rather than simply saying who it was I got the info from.
