[tv, random]

So, I periodically note that I rarely watch TV without anyone else around, and have mostly watched series as a social activity.

This doesn't, however, necessarily mean that I would not miss certain series, even if I initially watched them as a social activity.

One such series which I had a heck of a time remembering the name of (eventually gave up and asked Google) was Sliders - which I actively miss, and want to see again. May have to track down the DVDs.

I missed Buffy when I stopped watching it (I'd watched it regularly with a couple of different people, so I have strange gaps in my viewing), although not enough to do anything about it. And not, I don't think, enough to purchase it. (Although I do want a copy of the musical, since it keeps getting in my head. I have the soundtrack already)

I actively tracked down Babylon 5, after hearing enough about it. Of course, at the time I was living on campus and was able to make use of the fact that I had cable and access to the Sci Fi channel. Also, I had a VCR to record it for later watching. But Babylon 5 is, IIRC, the reason I finally owned a TV and VCR.

I actively tracked down and purchased Firefly, after seeing a couple of episodes on a friend's DVD of the series.

So there _is_ TV that I enjoy enough to seek out. It's just rare.

I have the first season of Buffy & B5 and could bring them back this weekend. I would happily watch them with you. And then we could see about Netflick or Blockbuster to rent other seasons? My cat should be able to survive one episode regularly, I think.

Plus yes, must own the musical Buffy episode. Must.

Mmm! Yeah, I like that idea. :)

Yay, intentional hanging out (which doesn't involve eating out. ;) And is regular!). :)

Yes, very appealing. I will bring back the DVDs with me. :)

Alas, Sliders seriously shark-jumped after a while. I got very sporadic about it once they started losing original cast members, and I never got into the replacements.

Either I wasn't watching anymore (possible), or I didn't notice.

Were you watching when any of the characters left the show?

[identity profile] wispfox.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't remember. I think so, because I think I remember Quinn's brother (also the actual actor's brother).

I think I remember being less interested in it around then, but I don't recall why.

[identity profile] leiacat.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
To me, it just wasn't the same without Wade and Professor, both of whom were gone by the time the brother turned up. Also, I was just not too thrilled with the Cromags plot arc that started around then. It was better when it was just world of the day.

Looking at IMDB, they replaced Quinn a year later. I think I'm glad I didn't catch that part.

*nod* Sounds like something I remember, yes. Happen to remember which season this happened in?

[identity profile] leiacat.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
The professor and Wade were gone by the end of 3rd. The other chick (Maggie) was introduced right around then. Then, the show was cancelled by Fox, and picked up by SciFi. Colin Mallory appeared shortly into 4th season. Evidently, but I personally mercifully missed it, both O'Connel brothers left 5th season.

So noted. Thanks. :)

I have Seasons 1 & 2 of Six Feet Under (http://www.hbo.com/sixfeetunder/), which I consider to be among the best drama series available, on DVD. You're welcome to borrow them if you're interested.

Hmm. I know basically nothing about that... and the link doesn't help.

Brief description?

[identity profile] fourgates.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
It's about a family that runs a funeral home. The main strength of the show is realism in the main character development. Each episode includes someone dying, with that person ending up at the family business, but those stories are minor in the big picture. There are some mildly squicky parts, but they don't milk that aspect. Six Feet Under, West Wing, and The Sopranos come up as the best dramas fairly consistently.

Eh. Doesn't sound the kind of thing which would grab me.

Good drama is, incidentally, rarely sufficient. I'm fairly sure that West Wing and The Sopranos, for example, would be things I would actively dislike.

I have the musical as a computer file if you are interested in seeing it. I also have it as an MP3 file becauase I love to listen to it while I'm doing other things. I used to listen to it constantly when it first came out. :)

Seeing it: I've seen it. I want to _have_ it. :)
