Men were studied in the same way, but because it typically took only 20 seconds to reach ejaculation, it was difficult for neuroscientists to obtain and interpret data.

...

who ARE these people?!?!

I was _totally_ wondering that...

I don't know, but I think I slept with one of them once.

I think I read about this study elsewhere, and if I recall correctly, the problem is that for men, it was 20 seconds between the beginning and the end of the period they identified as "orgasm", and for women, this period was a minute. And, for some mumbletytechnological reason, their neurological snapshots could only effectively occur over a 30-second period -- meaning that their data for men got a lot of junk non-orgasm stuff in it.

Could be wrong, that's just what I remember.

Aha! Right theory, wrong time-frame: it was two minutes (http://www.news24.com/News24/Technology/News/0,,2-13-1443_1724457,00.html).

And another slightly different (http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2005280327,00.html) article.

Aaaaah. Neat! Thanks for the extra info. :)

I had assumed that they were only interested in the act of orgasm causing ejaculation which for many (apparently most) men does not last as long as that of a woman.

I didn't think they meant the *whole* act.

Love the first link. Most amusing.

Interesting article too.

This totally surprised me:

Other differing brain patterns between the sexes suggested that men respond differently to having their genitals stimulated. Men appeared to want to rationalise the experience by interpreting its importance, while women merely enjoyed the sensation.

Wild. Wouldn't you think it would be the opposite, given the way men and women are generally socialized?

Yes... that's an interesting point!

I wonder if the rationalization part would not happen if they weren't being studied...
