Wrist MRIs take a _REALLY_ long time. On the order of 2.5 hours, long.

Sheesh.

And they're noisy. And I kept wanting to harmonize with the strange noises the machine makes while I was in it (I think I may have a few times, even though I was trying not to due to trying to stay still).

Also?

NSPy waits for us when we leave. He spent a bit of time waiting for [livejournal.com profile] jasra this afternoon, but appeared to understand that it'd be a while and stopped after a few minutes.

Woah. They must have wanted really high resolution. It only took them 1-1.25 hours to do my entire brain, in three cross-sections. (Okay, can the jokes... :-P)

I did find myself singing along, especially when it was doing the "whirr...beat. whirr...beat." thing.

They said something about needing lots of pictures, because wrists are complicated. They apparently take longer than anything else.

They probably have to come in from lots of different angles, to get spaces between bones.

My boobs took about an hour each.

MRIs tend to put me to sleep. There's something oddly comforting about the whir-click noises and having my upper body entirely surrounded by the machine, once I convince myself it isn't going to compress me into paste ;P.

Hmm. Well, the brain is a lot more simple from a scanning perspective, since it's just a solid layer of bone, then tissue that is a combination of fat and neurons with blood vessels scattered throughout, and maybe some fluid-filled cavities depending on where you're scanning (which you're just gonna ignore anyway). Wrists have tendons and muscle and bones (and cartilage?) and blood vessels and neurons and it's all in a much smaller space, so getting good pictures is probably a lot harder. Were they looking at the neurons, the tendons, or what?

Tendons were why I was there, but probably they wanted to see everything.

Damn complicated 2.5 hour thing. ;)

Hi from the airport! :) I'm glad he realized that waiting by the door wouldn't be very fruitful and gave up before too long.
