Ok, being wide awake at 5am is _very_ _annoying_, especially after going to bed at around 11:30p. I don't even have any idea why!

(sympathies) But 5.5 hours of sleep isn't *terrible*.

At least those hours will allow you to work. I'm watching you carefully as an exemplar for when [livejournal.com profile] galaneia returns, and was expecting to hear that you hadn't felt tired at all until 7 am.

I'm assuming you're using serotonin -- I'm not entirely sure how that affects the usual wisdom that it takes 3-4 days to adjust, and that said adjustment is more difficult for women and for going west-east. (Though I suspect the last one depends partly on whether you're a "night owl" or a "morning person" -- I have more trouble with east-west, personally.)

Well, I note that I'm using melatonin in order to make myself at all sleepy at night, so my experiences _will_ be different. And yesterday, I was entirely unable to get out of bed until 1:30p, even though I was awake and not actually _sleepy_ at around 10a.

I have no idea when I would feel able to sleep without the melatonin, even considering that I slept only a few hours during the trip home.

I am admittedly a morning person more than a night person... but... I find it a _lot_ harder to go to bed when not tired than to force myself to stay up later. So east->west is reasonable to be easier for me to adjust to.

Using seratonin, yes - I'm on SAM-e because of winter, and returned to using 5-HTP - also for winer - when I got back to the states (it's not legal in .au, so I did not bring it with me).

Do you have melatonin for [livejournal.com profile] galaneia to use? It _will_ help, assuming that she dosn't have strange reactions to it.

Must be early

Bleargh. I meant melotonin in the first place. I'm not clear on the connection between Serotonin and sleep, though it's an interesting question.

She did get some from her dad...I'm waiting to hear a report on how it affected her. (In general she has strong reactions to drugs, so I suspect it will help her greatly.)

melatonin: Ah, ok. I had no idea if seratonin might actually be what you meant. :)

(incientally, I tend to take ~1 hour or so to fall asleep, so it's more like 4.5, not 5.5, hours)

That's less good. Can you afford to conk out at 3pm today? Though I'm not sure that a nap would help adjust, it might become necessary...

I usually end up reporting my estimated sleep time, because it can take me 30-90 minutes to fall asleep, and then there's the 30 minutes in the morning when I'm not really sleeping, so 11 to 7:30 is actually only 6-8 hours depending. Also it gets more sympathy. :)

If a nap becomes necessary to the point of it making me unlikely to be able to sleep tonight, I'll do so (I have no plans today), but I prefer strongly to avoid doing that. I'd like to try to get into a reasonable schedule as soon as possible. Working from home tomorrow, so it won't be awful if not, but after that, from work.

I report my estimated sleep time because listing the times I go to bed is never useful - people tend to expect to fall asleep immediately, apparently, and I just don't _do_ that. Possibly when I'm very sick, but that's about it.
