[dazed, friends]

So... I just found out that my longest term friend nearly died last week, due to a nasty allergic reaction to (probably) a plant she brushed against while hiking in woods while visiting SF. I found out because I was calling to determine if I was visiting them or if (preferred) they were visiting me, on the 13th.

I have to wonder if anyone would have thought to tell me, if she hadn't survived.

Which of course, brings me to the thought that it's rather depressing that my emergency contact is still my parents.

Yeah.

[edit: As I would like to stop confusing people with my minimal reaction, I point at the 'nearly' and the 'if she hadn't survived' parts, above.]

Yeesh. Glad about the "nearly," there!

Mine, too.

Uh. Yeah!

Mine, too.

*nod* I note that, most of the time, I don't particularly care - they're nearby enough. Every so often, though...

Yeah, my biggest concern is making sure that they know who else I would want to know if anything happened.

I have written up a thing which includes precisely that information - including my LJ password and account name - which is to be given to them if I'm unconscious and going to be away from 'net for a week or more.

I've three copies; one in my bookbag, one in my glove compartment, and one in my freezer. The latter two are in pill bottles, which my mom suggested are more likely to be noticed, and freezers are likely to survive house fires. I also tend to try to make sure that my roommates know about them.

I'll need to update it again once [livejournal.com profile] jasra moves in, since it still claims [livejournal.com profile] ayalanya is my roommate.

:/ I'm sorry.

Err. I did miss the nearly.

Well I'm glad she didn't die then.

did miss the nearly.

Mmm! Yeah, no... it was a nearly, thankfully!

I'm glad your friend is okay.

I wish my emergency contact were still my parents. It would mean that Dad was still alive, and that Mom was still capable.

Mine is my brother. His is my brother-out-law.

*nod* Good point, that.

i *so* missed the 'nearly' the first time around, and was ...taken aback, i guess? quite sad, but also quite startled at the understated reaction.

then i re-read and heaved a sigh of relief. good heavens. i assume this is j-sans-lj?

[identity profile] wispfox.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm. I should perhaps emphasize 'nearly'. Although... I'd have thought 'if she hadn't survived' would also have made it apparent?

And yes, J-without-LJ.

[identity profile] ayalanya.livejournal.com 2005-08-04 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
it did make it apparent, which is why i re-read.

mew. glad j's okay.

Aaaah. 'k. Good.

mew. glad j's okay.

Me, too!

Made for a rather... odd conversation, I must say.

I am also depressed by my parents being my emergency contacts. Although I've got two ICE numbers in my phone (my folks, and my house's landline), so that's a start. . .

Since I haven't had any family locally, Gina has my emergency contact since I got divorced (and was the backup before that). I'll have to rethink that once I move though.

Glad your friend is ok! Allergies can be such scary things. :-/
