[food]

I want eggnog.

And fruitcake.

Hey, I need to go to the store tonight anyway...

I don't even know if my store would sell fruitcake!

Must be careful to not buy things which will go bad when I'm gone for a week...

although i personally love just about all fruitcake, this had to be said...

does fruitcake *ever* go bad?

I don't know!

But that's not all I'm going to the store for. ;)

a-HA! :)

It may, eventually, but it would take a very long time. In western Canada it's traditional for the top layer of a wedding cake (the Bride's cake) to be fruitcake, and to be saved for consumption on the 25th Anniversary.

ahhh. i was curious, partially, because we have a christmas cake (a fruitcake with marzipan and icing, delicious when fresh :) ) purchased in the UK last year still on our shelf.

unfortunately, i don't think we wrapped it tightly enough and it has likely solidified into a brick.

we keep it primarily for scientific purposes at this point. :)

ya know, someone you know really loves to make lots of fruitcake for her friends. :)

[identity profile] wispfox.livejournal.com 2004-12-20 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Loves to, or just does a lot of it? :)

(and yes, I did comment on that most recent post, and that post is what reminded me of fruitcake)

Loves to, despite all appearances to the contrary.

All you have to do is ask!

Hee! Ok, then 'would you please make me a fruitcake?'. :)

Fruitcake would be happy-making, since it's been years since I've had any.

See, I can't go around making fruitcake for everyone who *implies* they might want a fruitcake.

[identity profile] moominmolly.livejournal.com 2004-12-20 06:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It would be my pleasure! You will probably get it after Christmas, though, because this week is practically gone already. Is that okay? :)

Or I could just mail you the recipe. It's easy.

It's totally ok. And, since I'm gone on the other coast from Xmas till New Years, you have even more time! ;) (not that I'm in any rush, actually - so no rushing on my account!)

Or I could just mail you the recipe. It's easy.

I probably want the recipe anyway, actually, but I tend to be very poor at having enough initiative to cook anything ever. :)

Also, as for your subject line - I wasn't entirely sure about the circumstances of you making them. Did not want to be asking when I didn't know if you enjoyed them, nor if you were tired of making them. :)

out of curiosity, is this a recipe in a well known source, or is it an ancestral family recipe? :)

It is, in fact, an ancestral family recipe. :)

how neat! one of my favorite things to do is cook and have a bunch of people over to eat so i can enjoy seeing them enjoy what i've made... is it anything like that for you, also?

I do love that! But this is more the pleasure of making people's bellies happy and full of spicy fruity cake. I do thrive on the thanks, though. :)

I've tried the soy nog lately. Tastes awesome. Probably doesn't go bad as quickly as the milk-based stuff.

Fruitcake? Fruitcake? Why get fruitcake when there's plenty like me around? Fruitcake doesn't go bad for years and you can keep passing them around the family as mathoms.
