Figuring out what was CTY canon when I was there is _hard_
I was not... the most aware of popular music at the time, I don't remember precisely what year I first went (but probably had my first year been when the RAs were screwing with the music at dances, given all but my last summer were in Lancaster and my last summer was in '92 - possibly in Baltimore? Something closer to NH, at any rate, than Lancaster was, and that had just opened that year), and my youngest sister also went, so last time I tried to do this (before there were compilations of CTY canon on youtube) I enlisted her help which meant that her canon and my canon got mixed up in my head.
That sentence is a bit of a mouthful. Ah, well.
And, of course, it wasn't _called_ canon then, either!
In the definite category are
American Pie (because duh),
Forever Young,
Bizarre Love Triangle (which makes me wonder if I missed entirely obvious poly subtext in my intense obliviousness which was compounded by not learning to have/read body language until my senior year in high school - you know, _after_ my last CTY),
Rock Lobster,
Personal Jesus,
Oh L'amour,
Time Warp (and I think I never _did_ make it to a Rocky Horror showing, since they are always late at night! And while I watched it on my own not long after my first CTY, it makes a lot less sense alone. :),
Stairway,
and I'm pretty sure both Istanbul and Birdhouse.
In the much less certain category are End of the World As We Know It, Nightswimming [edited to add: Nope! This was one that came from my sister, I think], and given what was said on the canon page, perhaps No One is To Blame [edited to add: No, this doesn't feel right].
Hmm. This may also have been where I first heard Love Shack...
One of these years I will figure out what periodically causes me to hunt down CTY stuff. It is _absurdly_ much easier to find stuff online now than last time I tried!
Now I want to try to figure out when I first went. It's possible, but not definite, that my parents would know. I _am_ a middle child of 6, and all.
[ETA] I used to have a tape that someone made for me, possibly my first time there. That's what turned into canon in my brain, since it was easily available at the time. But that tape is _long_ gone, unless it's somewhere in the frightening place that is the storage in the barn...
