How does one go about finding a good accountant?

Also, very red APOD today.

Recommendations? :)
My family uses and likes Carpenter Associates (http://www.carpenterassociates.com/intro.htm) in Littleton, MA, which is one town over from Westford.

Hey, yay! Thank you!

(I do believe you're my source for most recommendations, thus far. Most of my doctor types, certainly!)

I need a recommendation girl icon! ;)

I would suggest that you ask a local lawyer. They always know good accountants.

Mmm. I'd need to know a local lawyer, first. :)

It's highly likely that your employer has in-house legal counsel. Just drop in and ask for a referral. That's what I did; it lead to a good friendship and some valuable acquaintances. I hadn't realized, until I spent quite a lot of money on them for other purposes, that one of the main assets that lawyers have to offer is their network of contacts.

I _think_ all the company lawyers are in Raleigh, not Westford.

But I could check. :)

You could also ask any local service people you interact with (massage, etc). I found a good one from the woman who did my nails. She also knew a lawyer and a cleaning person, so she was generally a good source.

The AICPA is a good place to start. http://www.aicpa.org/index.htm

Ah, yes. Good to know! Thanks. :)

Personal recommendations are often the best. I don't have any for you though. There are several industry groups that will point you in the right direction such as: here (http://www.accountantsworld.com/list/directorylist.aspx) and here (http://pfp.aicpa.org/) and here (http://www.wiseradvisor.com/find_advisors.asp?code=gu) and this (http://www.salary.com/money/layouthtmls/mnyl_display_nocat_Ser62_Par133.html) looks like a decent article
