Did I ever mention that for a while there we were toying with the idea of keeping llamas? They're fascinating beasties. I've heard them described as "cats in horse costumes" because that sums up their temperaments pretty well. Like cats, they'll sometimes pointedly ignore all attempts to corral them. Other times, just to confuse us, they'll let humans lead them around like horses.
I'd never heard of a llama escaping captivity in that manner, but it doesn't surprise me in the least.
