[apartment] couch-like things

OK, upon multiple suggestions, invesigating queen-sized futons w/frames that are both couch and bed on craigslist. Worst case, I don't find anything. Best case, I find something that's in decent shape to replace the couch for very little or nothing at all.

Also going to keep an eye out for a bed for the guest room, because if it's cheap enough but still in good shape, why not? And, as someone pointed out, I can always sell things on craigslist, come time to wander the country!

We have a fullsize one we're selling, but I suspect that that's not helpful, wrt mismatched sizes.

Yeah. If I'm going to get something, it'll be queen.

But thanks for letting me know!

Yeah, I totally wrote out the first comma phrase there, before realising that the sizes were wrong.  *snort*

Ooh, but *I* might want it :)
The trick is I don't want to move anything until at least July 1, as that's when I can start putting stuff in my new apartment and it seems silly to move one twice. If that might work for you, I'd love to hear details -- dancingwolfgrrl at livejournal dot com works.

I can't see why it wouldn't work.  :)  I forwarded the comment over to [livejournal.com profile] penghuin, who's actually selling it; I'll poke him tonight to reply.

Has he been in touch with you?  It's getting to the end of the month, so I was just curious.  :)

Sectional furniture might also work as an option. New, they are more expensive then a futon couch but the difference might not be as much used. They can be more comfy then futons, for the good ones.

At least in a brief look through craigslist, the difference is, in fact, pretty damn big even when used. Alas!

If you go with a futon, make sure the frame is wood, and not narrow slats. Metal frames suck, and will be uncomfortable to sleep on.

Wood: noted. I think I was already back-of-mind intending that, but hadn't consciously thought about why.

When we bought a full-size futon, from a local place here that I really trust, we inquired about queen-sized ones but got told that they're very rare because they're hard to make in a way that they are comfortable to sit or sleep on. And that the ones you find out there are usually either too fragile or too uncomfortable.

Just sharing what I heard.

Hmm... interesting. I do intend to check out anything before deciding to buy, so perhaps I might have realized that, but I doubt I'd have known it was wide-spread. Shall pay attention, then. :)

My experience matches this. I've owned a couple of double sized ones and a single sized ones. I've not seen a queen sized one. Also, if you have a choice, a hardwood frame will hold up better. I was unhappy with the quality of the inexpensive pine one I had, but it was cheep.

IME, full-size ones are fine for both sleeping and sitting.

You might want to talk to [livejournal.com profile] points because they have a futon (of unknown size) and I have couches that we could use as a trade.
