[politics, US]

US citizen? Not registered to vote yet? You can register at http://www.YourVoteMatters.org. I think you need to register about a month before the elections in order to be able to vote, so do it _soon_! There's only a few days left!

Yes, I realize that Massachusetts, where I live, is not a swing state. Not everyone reading me is in MA. And vote anyway!

(I also have no useful words for this: http://static.act04.org/act/paperstock.htm)

Just so you know, the stupidity in ohio is no more (http://columbusdispatch.com/election/election-local.php?story=dispatch/2004/09/29/20040929-A1-01.html). But damn it's scary that people try to pull that sort of crap.

Oh, good. Thank you!

And yes. Terrifying. And entirely too frequent!

Oh good! I was just reading about the issue today, and it hadn't ended yet.

And just so you know, there are two sides to the Ohio story, and ACTOhio is a party to one of them, something they conveniently fail to disclose on the page you cited. Apparently they were being a bit over-vigorous with the voter registration drive, even to the point of registering people who, um, don't exist (http://www.cleveland.com/summit/plaindealer/index.ssf?/base/summit/1096018375266600.xml).

Neat! Which makes me wonder who they'd have had voting as the non-existant people.

How can one register someone who isn't real? I'd have thought that such things are regularly checked, somehow...

But thanks. Knowing both (or at least more than one - since there is usually more than two) sides makes me happy.

Yeah, whenever I read reports like yours I go looking for the other side, and I am usually confirmed in my opinion that both parties are being pretty icky this year...

Everyone is scary!

But then, I pretty much knew that. At least in terms of politics!

Registration deadline is October 13th, as far as I am aware.

[identity profile] wispfox.livejournal.com 2004-09-29 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Ok. I only know that it's 20 days in advance for primaries and elections, and 10 for local-type things - in Mass.

And, especially when considering people who are sending things through the mail, ~a month seems safer. Because, if your registration form is late, I think you're screwed. I'm not certain about that, however.

I was also told by the local state something or other, when I called about changing what I was registered _as_, that I needed to do it by Oct 2nd. Not 13th.

That's funny. You'd think it'd take less time to change a little part for an existing voter than it would to add a new one.

[identity profile] wispfox.livejournal.com 2004-09-29 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed. I would think the same. Appears to not be the case, strangely!
