This morning, on the way to work, I was surprised to watch a small (probably young) deer step out of the woods next to the onramp I was on. It's a good thing no one was behind me, because I was so startled that I stopped accelerating (didn't break, didn't swerve).

I found the moments during which I was still able to watch the deer stepping out of the woods, looking around, remarkably peaceful. Calming. And I still have a brief snapshot in my head of the deer, delicately taking a step, and looking around curiously. And a snapshot of the feeling of calm/joy/contentment during thse moments.

I hope it survives, and does not decide to try to cross the onramp.

I wonder if it felt the bright piece of love I sent at it before I finally lost sight of it. And the warning that it really ought to try to avoid the onramp. I hope it did. But it's something I can never know.

Such beauty in small moments.
