I'd asked nchanter to warn them of the possibility of bringing the sofas through a window so they could prepare, she refused on the grounds she was confident just warning them would end up costing her more money. But when they discovered they couldn't get the sofas up the stairs (which is why mine was still in the garage - I moved first), they apparently just pulled out rope, removed a window, and hauled them up. I really wish I'd been there to see exactly how.
