well, context is all:

if you are the person's drug-dealer, you would then be wondering about this new synthetic known colloquially as "mirrors".

if you were hanging out with a high-ranking politician, you'd ask him why he doesn't prefer smoke.

if you were hanging out with a vampire, then you'd ask him why he tortures himself thusly, then you'd probably run away real fast (after flashing the BuffySignal).
