Why might one be doing this? Discuss!

[edit: Huh, ok. I was being silly with that question, and got no silly answers! Admittedly, I am an excellent example of someone who often _needs_ to be cuddled into submission!]

Also done with scared cats / kids. Not entirely sure it's "submission" but it's similar...

Usually, it's a response to someone who is in sensory overload, who needs a more simplified sensory experience.

It is among the suggested techniques for dealing with children, dogs, cats, and anybody else whose emotional/sensory regulation abilities are either underdeveloped or currently impaired. Such as, y'know, just about everybody sometimes.

Not so much submission as ... A physical reminder of comfort and alliance and parental presence when words can't be processed.

I think of hug machines, only with a real live person doing the hugging. Basically forced soothing of someone who has lost the ability to self-soothe. Though the "into submission" part rubs me wrong, I have to consciously remind myself that phrasing is (I hope) in jest.

I think I know too many sex geeks and BDSM enthusiasts... a person might literally want to cuddle someone into submission! (with previous negotiation and a safeword)
