My kitty gets *so* needy when I'm affectionate with humans.
My kitty only gets upset/needy/glary if I'm affectionate with humans with whom I have a strong emotional bond. Random affection with other people, he's fine with. Perhaps because that's fairly common with me with my friends. Not sure!
